Day 20
Cincinnati with Jenica!
Jenica had to work till afternoon. I still didn’t have a phone so I first went to a café and sat there and tried to swap the sim card (I had Jeni bring me a paperclip to try and get that stinker out) and get Ewing’s phone to work but…it was password locked via iTunes. The phone itself wasn’t locked but I couldn’t reset without the itunes password. He tried to help me and we tried a lot of different passwords but to no avail. Bah. So close!!! I still had the stupid little pay as you go that was semi-functional and semi-worthless. Pretty sure I looked shady doing all this at the table.

After that, I went to the Underground Railroad Freedom Center Museum. When I went to buy my ticket they asked me something about if I knew much about what the museum was and I told the woman at the front desk, yes! I’m biking the Underground Railroad Cycling Route and started in Mobile! She thought that was so cool and hadn’t met any other cyclists riding the route. I went in and walked the whole museum and watched a few of the short films showing. The museum was more than just Underground Railroad. They also talked about present day slavery and all the things that still currently go on in both the US as well as other countries. Was interesting for sure. Museum was big too. On my way out I stopped in the gift shop and at the front desk they had one of the cycling maps. I was looking at the map when the cashier informed me that there was a woman in the museum right now that was biking the URR and had started in Mobile, AL. I chuckled a bit and let out a little grin. She then exclaimed “OH! Is it you?!?!” Then she called to the other gift shop employee to tell her that I was the one biking it. They had never met anyone cycling the route either. I guess this is technically off route for the cycling route but I was kind of surprised they hadn’t met anyone. We chatted for a bit then I went back to the hotel since Jenica was off work!!! Whoohooooo!!!!!

It didn’t really matter what we did, I was just happy to have my friend here! We walked around, went to Fountain Square. I made her eat ice cream again at Graeter’s with me. A band was playing in the square so we watched that for a while. Some interesting dancing going on there with some of the homeless folks. We sat there as long as we could, till it got a bit too chilly. We then walked down to the ballpark area and grabbed a drink and hung out for a bit. Was a super chill day and so great to have company!!!! Can’t thank her enough for coming to visit me on the trip! It was a morale booster for sure!
